Financial planning is one of the most demanding tasks in the world. It takes a genius with a dash of common sense to plan expenditures in order to fulfill needs and at the same time save for the future as well. In fact elections in every democratic country help people choose representatives, who for the next few years not only do the planning job but also make sure that development goals are met. Our country is the second most populated country in the world with a large share of women in it. India has the majority of people living in middle class and lower middle class financial tags. The country witnesses largest difference in terms of salaries that people earn. There are people who earn around 6000 rupees in a month and there are people that earn more than 50000 in a month. Despite this difference in the salaries, women of these families make sure that household requirements are met on an regular basis. Not only this, but they also are able to save a good part from the original salary irrespective of the amount that the household earns.

‘Women are the best financial planners’ is one of the statements that needs no proof at all. But if we all really agree to the same then why do we hesitate in giving them the chance to run the nation? The number of legislators in the country is far smaller than what it really should be. This small number means small say in the making and breaking of policies that govern the nation.

Women population in India is somewhat equal to that of men but the number of women legislators on average is just nine percent of the total seats. This clearly shows how biased we are when it comes to choosing representatives. On one hand we all want women to run the families and plan its expenditures and on another we do not see them fit for running the country. This could be due the fact that we live in a male dominated society, but we have seen what the elected leaders have done to the nation. There big male egos always comes in their way of making the nation a strong one. Women on the other hand, once committed to their work do not see the negative side and keep themselves occupied with the work. Probably this is why more men die of heart attack than women.

Possible reasons behind this low participation of the female sex in elections start from the women themselves. It is bitter but true that most women hate politics. And why not, politics in real sense is a game that requires the inclusion of bad moves along with the good ones. Cast politics plays a major role in the country when it comes to deciding the mood of the election’s outcome and trust me when I say women hate caste politics. So much so that women usually close their eyes on the topic and move on, but here instead of doing this if they can take a step opposite of the same, the country could see brighter candidates in making. Secondly women in rural India blindly follow what their families advise them to, they would always vote the candidate and the party their husbands, fathers or brothers want them to. I mean who knows which button on the election machine you are pressing, if there a is a candidate that you like and you know that would turn the tables around, go vote for her/him, simple.

Most of the women and men here would have the ‘women bill’ to blame. The bill that originated to make sure that a specific amount of women take part in the election. But who would guarantee women’s fair participation once the bill gets passed. Men again would ask their wives to contest elections as they do now, take for example Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi. Most of the women who contest elections in villages do so because they are ordered to, once they win it’s their husbands that take most, I am sorry all the decisions.

A society is known by the way it treats her mothers, daughters and wives and a country is known by the women who take equal part in the politics of the country. India needs more women like Vasundhra Raje, Sheila Dikhsit, Indira Gandhi, women who know how to take guard and work for the betterment of the nation. It is not just ‘the’ men and not just ‘the’ women that can make things better but both as a whole.  A message to all the men out there “if women can run your family and take care of your finances, they can do the same for the country too”.
