Have we lost the joy of being alive?

just a bad day....
just a bad day….

Earthquakes and other forces of nature are perhaps reminders that tell us the importance of life, importance that got lost in the war of competition.

It was some where in noon today when tremendous shocks hit New Delhi and areas around it. As usual the whole office was working quietly before the occurrence of the mighty earthquake which on Richter scale measured a fatal 7.5. The first shock made all of us look at each other wandering about the first person who would walk out the door in order to feel safe for the next few minutes. I still do not remember who was the first person to walk out the door but certainly remember about everyone else following suite. The whole team stood outside the office for about 20 odd minutes before returning to work. Those 20 minutes for most of us were time that we really lived after a long gap. Perhaps these are signs from the nature which constantly remind us of the gift of life. A gift that we human beings have taken for granted.

Things returned to normal once we were back at our stations, stations made with computers invented by men. There was no sign of physical or life damage in any form whatsoever but on close introspection one could really tell that the entire meaning and concept of being alive already stood shattered. Those 20 minutes had made us realize the importance of air we breath, conversations we have with our own kind.

Most of us, which off-course includes me, are so busy in our daily lives that we have forgotten to live, to breathe, to enjoy what nature has given us. The raging war of brands, competition to be better has successfully transformed us into machines, same machines that were created by us with a hope that these would make our lives easier. The time and our lust have grown so powerful that we choose to work instead of spending time with the loved ones. Being workhorses, meeting deadlines and targets have taken the top slots when it comes to setting agendas for a perfect life. We have more than 500 friends on social networking websites but barely know our neighbours. There is nothing wrong in being workaholic, nor is it poor to have a long list of friends on social networking websites but it is always better to live in the real world rather than the virtual one.

The war of brands will go on with or without us but our families, our friends would always be the ones who in real sense would make this life worth living. Mother nature has been kind enough to provide us humans with more than what actually is required to sustain a healthy lifestyle, she has given us signs every now and then pointing towards what we have made of our selves. But as they say patience wears out sooner than we can imagine, and in life there are no retakes. life would not be as easy as it was today, weather will not be as pleasant it was today, our health will not be as pink as it is today. Make the most of what you have and to all the people of Delhi and people from across so-called National Capital Region, life would not throw the same chance as it did today.
