School Books, wish had read them the way they were supposed to…..

Most of us still do not know the importance of uniforms that we wore, books that we read, teachers we idolized and friends  we made.

School is an institution which is meant to shape kids into human beings, beings who know the meaning of life. Most of us reading this article or blog whatever you choose to call it have had the liberty of attending one or more of the best schools in their cities, something that grown ups do not back up from bragging when in friend circles. There are N number of phrases and idioms that yell and tell the importance of teachers and school books in one’s life. But there are only a few who find the true meaning of studies and course materials that we go through when in school. Most of us still do not know the importance of uniforms that we wear, the books that we read, teachers that we idolize and friends that we make.

I in no way am biased towards the literature books that we read, history that we mug up but yeah I am an admirer of the writers that do not leave any stone unturned to make us every bit of humans we should be. In the most primary of classes we are taught to share food, respect our elders and be humble to the one’s around us. But as soon as the real world kicks in, most of us rather all of us barely remember the classes we had attended, lessons we were taught.

This completely is not our fault at all. Let’s take an example of kids who live in joint families and try to find out what has never earlier been spoken of. A kid from a joint family learns in school that sharing food is the best gesture to offer to the world, but the very same day he is told by his parents who brought a few burgers not to share them with other kids of the family. The kid at first wonders as to why all the drama but eventually learns to live with the same in the long run.

As the kid grows and reaches classes that make or break business for the school or the institution, teachers start emphasizing on the need of good marks. Meanwhile, the importance of the precious words written by writers go for a toss. There was a chapter named ‘the tribute’, a drama named as the three ghosts of Christmas’ which most of us read in the X th standard, we remember more of them because they were essential for scoring big in the board exams and not for the message they conveyed. Similarly there are a lot of other good reads in different language books that we went through because we had to get that percentage to qualify for a good college.

The results of the same are clearly visible to one and all. India has produced some of the best scientists, engineers who work for Google and face-book. But there has been a minor glitch in course of time, India, no not just India but most parts and countries of the world have failed to create people who care for the fact that explains our existence on the planet. We today, do not act as we want to but behave as the media and the press wants us to.

The importance of mathematics, marketing and engineering has made us vulnerable to our own selves. Most of us are the preys of the tactics that we ourselves use to hunt clients for our organization. The importance of these and the contribution that these have made for the betterment of human kind is not comparable to anything else but the lack of respect that we have shown to the literature truly reflects in the lives that we lead today. Perhaps, if we knew why we were reading those literature lessons, history and civics, things could have been different today.
